Don't Take Me Seriously - Book - Page 284
(And, please, this is a total expenditure of only $8, so don’t send agents from a
12-step program to my door. It’s for the kids.)
Unconvinced? Well, let’s run the numbers. And, before you write in about my
mathematical failings, be assured that I got a C in statistics.
Here we go: Only mega numbers of 1-27 are possible in SuperLotto Plus, so
what are the odds of getting the same mega number twice in one, two-ticket
purchase? They are 27 x 27 = 729, so one in 729. That’s pretty long odds. Not
crazy-long, but if someone offered me good money at those odds, I’d let them
shoot an apple off my head.
But we are not done impressing. You see, the odds of two out of four two-ticket
purchases having the same mega are (729 x 729) / 2. That’s a whopping one in
265,720 chance! This is an amazing result, students, and I have seen this samemega-out-of-two-tickets thing occur many times, from various lottery outlets. This
is no random number generation, it is a Lazy Algorithm.
But I can top that. This past May, on two quick pick tickets, three of five regular
numbers “randomly” chosen were exactly the same!!! That is, to my calculations,
