Don't Take Me Seriously - Book - Page 10
from March 2010 through May of 2013. A few were done after that,
published at my erstwhile website, and later at Medium.com, and I’m ready
to go weekly again when that long-awaited syndication finally comes through.
So, a second volume may follow this one, in time.
My very first humor column, The Dreaded Valentine’s Dance, was
inspired by the fear of Valentine’s Day in 2008. It seemed an isolated burst
of creativity and hubris and didn’t come with the “Don’t Take Me Seriously”
label. (I neglected to save a PDF of that one.) A year later we had an extra
weekly page to fill in February of 2009, whereon I spewed JimBob’s 10 Best
Places (to propose). That one did come with the DTMS label because I was
getting an inkling that these mental flares might actually become a thing.
My Don’t Take Me Seriously columns won several awards over the years,
including: National Newspaper Association – First Place, Humor Columns,
2011; Second Place, Humor Columns, 2012; Third Place, Humor Columns,
2011. California Newspaper Publishers Association – Second Place, Humor
Columns, 2011.
Most of my columns appear here as PDF copies of the pages they were
published on initially, in chronological order of their publication. The two
reasons for this are simple: (1) There were too many to arrange otherwise
(190+). (2) The initial published pages, at least those published on weekly
magazine pages, include graphics and other “fun” that, frankly, make reading
them more interesting. Oh, I have preserved the original texts I created,
which I own the rights to, but this layout method of publication is just more
visual and, also-frankly, easier than reworking the text into new forms and
searching out new graphics to go with. Maybe I’ll do that someday.
